Solving Dynamic Problems
Approaches for modeling dynamic problems are described in the following three subsections. The first subsection Procedure for Solving Dynamic Simulations discusses procedures for dynamic, mechanical-only calculations.
The second subsection Solving Dynamic Fluid Coupled Problems discusses dynamic coupled analyses, including the effect of groundwater on the dynamic response and liquefaction behavior of the soils. This section treats the soils as nonlinear effective-stress materials. The first two subsections include a simplified seismic analysis of an earthfill dam to illustrate the procedures. In the third subsection Recommended Steps for Seismic Analyses, recommended steps are given for a full-scale seismic analysis of an earth structure.
