FLAC Modeling
Note
Material in the underlying sections mostly refers to FLAC3D. However, same or equivalent concepts, derivations, examples, and results are applied to FLAC2D (as it operates under the assumption of plane-strain which is a subset of full 3D analysis). Topics or descriptions specific to FLAC2D are explicitly stated where applicable.
This section serves the purpose of generally introducing FLAC and providing an overview of working with the program. Many of the subjects introduced here are more exhaustively documented in later parts of the Help. It is divided into three major parts.
This section, as its name implies, gives the user a first look at the program, its features, tools, and utilities, as well as its design and its uses.
These sections are optimal for the user who wants to dive right in. It contains tutorials that will provide step by step guidance on the most fundamental tasks involved in working with FLAC2D and FLAC3D.
This section provides an up-close look at the methodology of sequential modeling that is used to construct the flac model
.
With regard to the sections following this one (FLAC Modeling), their contents may be summarized briefly as follows:
FLAC Theory and Background - provides background information and descriptions of the theoretical basis for the basic components of relevant for FLAC2D and FLAC3D.
Options - provides complete documentation on options.
Examples - provides access to example applications, verification problems, and all other examples that appear in the Help documentation.
In addition to the aforementioned, which complete the portion of the documentation that is specific to FLAC, some other major sections of the documentation include the following.
Program Guide > Program Mechanics - provides an overview of the methods of conducting a modeling project in the program. This area contains most of the UI documentation.
Scripting - provides complete reference documentation on using FISH and Python to include script operations within a model.
These sections are placed outside the content appearing in the FLAC, PFC, or 3DEC sections because the material contained within is pertinent to all of those programs.
The last items on the navigation tree are Indices and a Glossary, either of which may be useful both as references and as quick access points to the rest of the documentation.
