Project Branch

The “Project” branch of the Objects panel tree provides access to the data files, plots, save files, and results files as present in the project.

There are three methods of operation on the constituents of this tree branch—Drag-and-Drop Operations, Right-Click Operations, Double-Click Actions.

Drag-and-Drop Operations

Tip

In all cases, the mouse cursor cues drop outcomes.

dropok

item may be dropped at cursor location

dropno

item cannot be dropped at cursor location

Also observe the target location of a viable drop operation will be highlighted this color hl (approximately—the highlight appearance will vary depending on the background of the highlighted window). No highlight appears if the the current cursor location is not a viable drop target.

No operation is performed when an item is dropped on a “prohibited” location.

Drag-and-drop behavior of project items varies by item type and by the location of the drop, as tabulated below. Note that there are tree items (e.g., the “Projects” container itself) that cannot be dropped. When an item is dragged over a content window in the workspace, the current content of the target window is replaced with the dragged item.

Drag-and-Split-on-Drop

When the drag operation occurs, it is possible to automatically split the target window. When the cursor location falls near the top, bottom, left, or right of the target window, highlighting is updated to show that the result of the drop operation is to produce a split. When the entire window is highlighted, the content of the window is replaced. Splitting is not allowed in a direction if the size of the target window in that direction is prohibitively small.

Every item on the tree furnishes a set of actions specifically available to that item. Each action is defined individually below, with the applicable tree items appearing in parentheses: container objects appear in italicized and capitalized (e.g., Data Files); the object types within a container are written in lower case plaintext (e.g., data files).

Add…

Add an existing item of the clicked type to the project (Data Files, Saved States, Results).

Close

Tip

The Information… command is new in version 9.0. Users are encouraged to try it to familiarize themselves with the functionality and its potential uses.

Information…

Display an information dialog for the clicked item (saved states). The information shown in the dialog a tree containing three branches: general file metadata, and the entire Model State and Program branches of the Objects at the time the file was saved.

Open an existing item of the clicked type (Project, Data Files, Plots).

Open in Workspace

Open the clicked item in the workspace (data files, plots).

Remove from Project

Removed the clicked item from the project without deleting the file object (data files, saved states, results).
